What is Zoho Creator, in plain words?
Zoho Creator is a low-code platform for building your own business apps. You design forms, and Creator stores what people enter, shows it in reports and runs the rules you set, on the web and in its iPhone and Android apps.
Think of it as the step between a shared spreadsheet and custom software. A spreadsheet has no rules: anyone can type anything, nobody gets told when a row changes and the newest version is always somewhere else. Custom software has every rule you want, plus a long build and a developer you depend on forever. Creator sits in the middle. Most of an app is put together by dragging fields onto a form, and the people who know the process can usually read and change what was built.
Every app has the same three parts: forms where data goes in, workflows that react when it does, and reports or pages where people see the result. Once you can picture your process in those three pieces, you can picture the app.
What can you build without writing code?
Anything that is mostly “collect it, check it, route it, show it”: approval flows, field forms, trackers, logs, simple portals and registration apps. These eight are typical first builds for US teams; pick a department to filter them.
None of these needs a programmer for the first version. The form builder handles field types such as dropdowns, dates, files, images and signatures. Built-in workflow actions cover sending an email, assigning a record, updating a field and asking for approval. Reports give you lists, calendars, kanban boards and charts, and pages pull several of them into a dashboard.
Two things make these apps stick. First, they replace something people already dislike, so nobody needs convincing. Second, each one solves one job well. The teams that struggle are the ones who try to rebuild their whole operation as the first app.
Where does no-code stop and Deluge take over?
When a rule needs a calculation, a loop over several records or a call to another system, you write a few lines of Deluge, Zoho’s own scripting language. It reads close to plain English, and most apps need only a handful of these scripts.
Typical moments where scripting comes in: working out a price from several fields, copying a closed job into Zoho Books as an invoice, checking stock in another app before an order is accepted, or pushing a record to an outside system through its API. Creator also lets you build your app in a development copy, test it in a stage copy and only then publish to the live one, so changes do not land on people mid-shift.
A useful rule of thumb from our projects: if you can describe the rule in one sentence that starts with “when” and ends with “then”, the drag-and-drop workflow builder probably handles it. If the sentence needs “for each”, “unless” and “look up” in it, budget for Deluge.
What does Zoho Creator cost in the US?
Creator is priced per user per month. On yearly billing, Standard is $8, Professional $20 and Enterprise $25 in USD before tax, and a free edition covers a single app.
Zoho Creator US list prices per user per month, October 2026
| Edition | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Worth knowing |
| Free | $0 | $0 | One app, to try an idea |
| Standard | $8 | $12 | Entry plan for a first app |
| Professional | $20 | $30 | Where most growing teams land |
| Enterprise | $25 | $37 | Your own domain, rebranded mobile apps, SAML single sign-on |
Portal users, such as vendors or customers who log in to your app, are a separate add-on. Creator is also included in Zoho One, so a company already paying for the full suite has it at no extra license cost. The full edition breakdown and a license calculator sit on our Zoho Creator page.
When is Zoho Creator the wrong tool?
When a ready-made Zoho app already does the job, when the app is a public product for thousands of consumers, or when the real need is heavy data processing. In those cases Creator adds work without adding value.
- A Zoho app already covers it. Sales pipelines belong in Zoho CRM, invoices in Zoho Books and tickets in Zoho Desk. Rebuilding them in Creator means maintaining what Zoho already maintains for you.
- It is your customer-facing product. A branded consumer app with its own design system usually needs a custom build. Creator portals suit partners and clients who log in to do a task, not a mass audience.
- The work is mostly number crunching. Large data pipelines and heavy background jobs fit better on cloud infrastructure such as AWS, with Creator or CRM as the screen people use.
- Nobody will own it. Without an owner, even a well-built app goes stale. Fix that first, whatever tool you pick.
Should you build it yourself or with a partner?
Build it yourself if the app is one form, one workflow and one report, and someone on your team enjoys tinkering. Bring in a partner when it needs Deluge, integrations, a portal or data moved from Access or old spreadsheets.
Plenty of good Creator apps start as a weekend experiment by an operations manager. The trouble starts when that experiment becomes the system the business runs on, with nobody who knows how the scripts work. If you want help, we start with a free discovery call about the process, then agree the screens, rules and data move in a signed BRD with one fixed price before the build. The first four steps are on How we work, and our signs you have outgrown spreadsheets article is a good gut check before any of it.
