07Agent framework questions
Questions about AI agent frameworks, answered
LangChain versus LangGraph, self-hosting n8n, Zapier tasks and how agents touch Zoho. Bring a job you want an agent to do and we’ll sketch it with you.
What is an AI agent framework?
It is the software layer that turns a language model into something that can act. The framework hands the model a list of tools, runs the tool the model picks, keeps the state of the run, retries failed steps and can pause for a human decision. LangChain with LangGraph, n8n and Zapier are three popular choices, from code-first to no-code.
LangChain vs n8n vs Zapier: which is best for AI agents?
It depends on who maintains it. LangChain and LangGraph suit teams with developers who want full control, tests and hosting in their own cloud. n8n suits a technical ops person who likes a visual canvas and may need to self-host. Zapier suits business teams that want to change an agent themselves and mostly connect well-known SaaS apps.
What is the difference between LangChain and LangGraph?
LangChain is the library of building blocks: model wrappers, tool definitions, retrievers and agents. LangGraph, from the same company, models an agent as a graph of steps with shared state, which makes loops, branching, saved checkpoints and human approval pauses easier to control. For production agents we usually build with LangGraph and use LangChain parts inside it.
Is LangChain free to use?
The LangChain and LangGraph libraries are open source with no license fee. LangSmith, the company’s tracing and evaluation service, has a Developer plan at $0 for one seat with 5,000 base traces a month and a Plus plan at $39 per seat per month with 10,000 base traces. You still pay your model provider for usage.
Can n8n be self-hosted for free?
Yes. The n8n Community Edition can run on your own server or AWS account with no license fee, so your cost is the hosting and the time to keep it patched and backed up. n8n also sells cloud plans priced by workflow executions, plus enterprise options with features such as single sign-on.
How does Zapier charge for AI agents?
Zaps are billed by tasks: the Free plan includes 100 a month, Professional starts at $19.99 a month billed yearly for 750 tasks, and Team starts at $69 a month billed yearly for 2,000. Zapier Agents are metered separately in activities, with an allowance on each plan, so agent use does not eat into your task count.
Can an AI agent safely update records in Zoho CRM?
Yes, with limits in place. We give the agent only the tools and OAuth scopes it needs, route risky actions such as refunds, deletes or client emails through an approval step, and keep a trace of every call. Zoho MCP adds per-tool switches and runs actions with each user’s own Zoho permissions.
Should we use Zoho Flow instead of n8n or Zapier?
If every system involved is a Zoho app and the steps are fixed rules, Zoho Flow is usually the simpler and cheaper home. When the job needs a model to decide what to do, touches many outside apps or must run on your own server, an agent built in n8n, Zapier or LangGraph fits better. We often use both side by side.
What is SI?
SI stands for super intelligence. In September 2026 a US executive order asked federal agencies to use “super intelligence” or “SI” in place of “artificial intelligence” in official communications. Most businesses still say AI, so we use both terms.
How do you price an AI agent project?
The first conversation is free. Once we know the job, the tools and the approval rules, we write them into a BRD with a fixed price and a delivery schedule, and you sign before the build begins. Larger multi-agent work may start with a short paid design phase, quoted up front. Platform and model fees are billed to you by each vendor.
