Ring up a sale on the shop floor and the website knows a second later. That is the whole point.
Shopify POS is the checkout app for physical stores, pop-ups and markets, running on an iPad, iPhone or Android device with a Shopify card reader. It shares products, customers, discounts and stock with your Shopify website. Our team, led from Glendale, plans the hardware, sets up locations and staff permissions, moves you off an older register, and connects every in-store sale to Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books.
01Is Shopify POS for your shop?
Shopify POS is the in-person half of Shopify: the same admin, the same products and the same customer records, just used at a counter instead of a browser. It is strongest for retailers who also sell on a Shopify website. For a busy restaurant or a shop that never plans to sell online, a different system can make more sense, and we will say so.
02Shopify POS services
A register that works on day one is mostly preparation: clean barcodes, the right permissions, tested hardware and a staff that has practiced a refund. These are the jobs we take on, in roughly the order they happen.
Every shop, stockroom and warehouse becomes a Shopify location with its own counts, fulfillment rules and pickup settings, so the website only promises what a real shelf holds.
Card readers, iPad stands, receipt printers, cash drawers and barcode scanners chosen per counter, paired, and run through a full test sale before the shop opens.
Who can give a discount, open the cash drawer, issue a refund or see reports. On POS Pro locations we set roles per person so a new hire can’t void last week’s sales.
Products, variants, barcodes, customer lists and gift card balances brought across, with old sales history kept where your accountant can still find it.
The POS home screen arranged around what your cashiers actually tap: best sellers, a gift-wrap fee, the loyalty lookup, a quick discount. Receipts carry your return policy and logo.
Store sales flowing to Zoho Books by location and payment type, purchasing and transfers handled in Zoho Inventory, and shoppers matched to their online history in Zoho CRM.
03One Saturday at the shop
Here is a sample Saturday at a small Pasadena shop that also sells online, read off the shop clock. Every stop shows what the cashier does on the register and what quietly updates behind it.
8:45 AM · Open
The opener signs in with a staff PIN, counts the cash drawer float into the POS and checks that last night’s online orders for pickup are on the shelf.
Shift opened · $150.00 float
11:20 AM · Sell
A shopper buys an apron and two mugs by tapping her phone. The apron drops from 4 to 3 in this shop, and the website’s count follows within moments.
Order #POS-2231 · $81.59 card
1:30 PM · Pickup
He ordered online at breakfast. The cashier finds the order by name, marks it picked up, and the order status changes for both sides at once.
Order #1188 · picked up
3:50 PM · Return
A sweater bought on the website is too small. The POS pulls up the original order, exchanges it for the next size, and the returned one goes back into this shop’s stock.
Exchange · $0.00 difference
7:00 PM · Close
The closer counts cash, notes any difference and ends the shift. Overnight, the day’s card, cash and gift card totals post to Zoho Books under the Pasadena location.
Shift closed · over/short $0.00
Sample day with made-up orders. Returns at any of your shops, rather than only where the item was bought, need POS Pro on the location taking the return.
04Try it · sample shop
Flip the switch to compare one shared Shopify inventory with an old setup where the shop register and the website keep separate counts and catch up each night. Then sell, take website orders and accept returns, and watch the numbers.

Sample shop with one product. In a real store each location keeps its own count, the website can be told which locations it may sell from, and a safety buffer can hold back the last unit or two.
05Shopify POS and Zoho
POS orders are ordinary Shopify orders with a location attached, so anything we already sync from the website can carry store sales too. The difference is in the detail: cash versus card, which shop sold it, and which drawer came up short. These are the four hand-offs retail clients ask for most.

Zoho Books
Low count at a shop
Stock moves and vendor purchase orders run from Zoho Inventory, then received units flow back to the right Shopify location.
Zoho Inventory
Customer added at checkout
The email captured at the register matches the online account, so Zoho CRM shows in-store and web spend on a single contact.
Zoho CRM
Every closed shift
Sales per hour, per staff member and per location next to margin and stock turns in Zoho Analytics, refreshed each night.
Zoho Analytics
Simple hand-offs run on Zoho’s own Shopify connectors or Zoho Flow. When a chain of shops pushes thousands of POS orders a day, we write the sync on Zoho Catalyst with retries and a log your team can read.
06Shopify POS pricing
The POS app itself comes with every Shopify plan, so a single shop can start selling in person on the plan it already pays for. POS Pro is an add-on at $89 a month per location on Basic, Grow and Advanced, and Shopify Plus includes POS Pro locations. Card readers and other hardware are bought once, and each in-person card payment carries a rate set by your plan.

Our part of the budget. Rolling out Shopify POS with us is priced once, in a signed BRD that names every location, device and data import, and it does not change unless you add a shop. Hardware is bought from Shopify in your name, with no markup from us.
Shopify’s US list prices in USD before sales tax; card rates are Shopify Payments standard rates for US stores. POS Pro is billed per location, and Shopify reworks retail bundles every so often, so we confirm the count of Plus-included locations and current hardware prices while we plan your counters.
07Shopify POS questions
Hardware, POS Pro, offline sales, returns and moving from another register. Bring your store count and your current POS to the first call; it costs nothing.
Shopify POS is Shopify’s point-of-sale app for selling in person. It runs on an iPad, iPhone or Android device with a Shopify card reader and shares one set of products, customers, discounts and inventory with your Shopify online store, so every in-store sale lands in the same admin as your website orders.
The POS app is included with every Shopify plan at no extra monthly cost. POS Pro, which adds staff roles, returns at any location, stock counts and retail reporting, is $89 a month per location on Basic, Grow and Advanced, and Shopify Plus includes POS Pro locations. Hardware and in-person card rates are separate.
No. POS Pro is billed per location, so a small kiosk or a pop-up can stay on the included POS while the busy flagship runs Pro. We usually suggest Pro where several staff share one register, where returns from other shops or the website are common, or where you count stock in the store.
At minimum a supported iPad, iPhone or Android device and a Shopify card reader. Most fixed counters add a stand, a receipt printer, a cash drawer and a barcode scanner. We pick hardware per counter, check it works with your network, and test a complete sale and refund on each one.
Cash sales can continue, and Shopify offers offline card payments on supported readers once they are turned on, with limits set by Shopify. Everything syncs when the connection returns. We test this on your actual devices before opening day and write the steps into your staff runbook.
Yes. Staff look up the website order on the POS and refund or exchange it, and the item goes back into that shop’s stock. Returns at a location other than where the item was bought need POS Pro on the location handling the return.
Square is a strong standalone register and often cheaper for a shop that sells only in person. Shopify POS tends to win once you also sell online, because the catalog, customers and inventory are already shared with your Shopify store instead of synced between two systems. We compare both against your sales mix on the first call.
Yes. We bring over products, variants, barcodes, customers and gift card balances, then run test sales before switching the counter. Older sales history usually stays in the old system or goes to your accounting records as summaries, so reports for past years remain available.
Yes. POS orders are Shopify orders tagged with a location, so they sync like website orders. We usually post daily takings per shop to Zoho Books with cash, card and sales tax split, manage purchasing and transfers in Zoho Inventory, and match in-store shoppers to their Zoho CRM contact.
The first call is free. The rollout itself is a fixed price written into a signed BRD that lists every location, device, import and Zoho connection with its go-live date. Larger multi-store moves may start with a paid discovery, quoted before any work. Shopify bills you directly for plans, POS Pro and hardware.
08How a POS rollout starts
We want to see where the cashier stands, where the stockroom is and how a refund works today before we suggest a single device. One shop with an existing Shopify website is usually scoped on the first call; a multi-store move off another register may need a short paid discovery, quoted before it begins.
Shops around Los Angeles get an on-site hardware day with our team from the Glendale office. Retailers elsewhere in the US, Canada and Latin America are set up remotely, with devices shipped and paired over video.
