Shop Pay setup for US Shopify stores that want returning buyers to pay in one tap

Your best customers already gave someone their address and card once. Shop Pay remembers it for them.

Shop Pay is Shopify’s accelerated checkout. A buyer saves their email, address and card once, and on any store that offers Shop Pay they confirm it’s them and pay without retyping a thing. Shop Pay Installments adds pay-later plans, funded by Affirm, while your store gets the full amount up front. Our team, led from Glendale, turns both on, places the buttons and installment messages where they help, tests real orders, and makes every payout line up in Zoho Books.

01What Shop Pay is

What is Shop Pay, and is it right for your store?

Shop Pay is a saved-details wallet built into Shopify Payments. It shows up as a button on product pages, in the cart and at checkout, and the buyer’s details live on Shopify’s PCI-compliant servers, shared with your store only when an order is placed. For most US stores already on Shopify Payments, leaving it off makes little sense. A few situations change that answer.

Turn it on when

  • Most traffic is on phonesTyping a ZIP code and a sixteen-digit card on a small screen is where carts stall. A saved wallet skips that part.
  • Your average order is $50 or moreThat’s where four biweekly payments start, which lets a $300 jacket read as four smaller numbers on the product page.
  • You also sell in personInstallments work at Shopify POS in US retail locations, so the counter can offer the same plans as the website.
  • Your checkout isn’t on ShopifyShop Pay on any platform puts the button on another commerce stack through the Shop Pay Wallet API, as long as your business qualifies for Shopify Payments.

Think twice when

  • You can’t use Shopify PaymentsSome product categories and some countries are outside it. Shop Pay rides on Shopify Payments, so a store on a third-party gateway has to solve that first.
  • Buyers pay on net termsWholesale accounts that expect an invoice and thirty days want company payment terms, which is a Shopify B2B setup and a different conversation.

What our Shop Pay consultants actually do

Switching Shop Pay on takes a minute in the admin. Getting the buttons, the installment messages, the refunds and the accounting right takes longer, and that’s the work US merchants hand to us.

  1. Activation and button placement

Shopify Payments verified, Shop Pay switched on, and express buttons placed in the theme where they don’t crowd the Add to cart button. We check Sign in with Shop on customer accounts while we’re there.

Tested on iPhone, Android and desktop

  2. Shop Pay Installments, set up properly

Eligibility confirmed, the installment banner shown on product and cart pages with the right amounts, and copy checked so a $28 accessory never promises a plan it can’t get.

Theme app blocks, no hard-coded math

  3. Installments at the register

For stores with a shop floor, we update the POS app, give staff the draft-order permission Installments needs, and rehearse a counter sale with them.

Pairs with our Shopify POS work

  4. Shop Pay on a non-Shopify checkout

For brands on another platform, we build the Wallet API integration, connect checkout domains, set up the brand on Shop and finish payout details inside Shopify’s 21-day window.

Code in your repo, keys in a vault

  5. Payouts, refunds and disputes in the books

Each payout broken into sales, fees and refunds in Zoho Books, Installments refunds traced to the payout that absorbed them, and a short playbook for answering an Affirm dispute from the admin.

    Month-end that closes without guesswork

03Two buyers, one cart

What does a returning Shop Pay buyer skip that a guest has to type?

Same throw blanket, same Texas address, same card. One lane follows someone who has used Shop Pay on any Shopify store before. The other follows a first-timer checking out as a guest. Press start and count what each of them has to enter before the order goes through.

Both buyers are on the cart page.

The guest isn’t lost. At the end of that checkout they can choose to save their details with Shop Pay, which needs an email address, and next time they’re the faster buyer, on your store or anyone else’s.

What we tune. Which checkout fields are required, whether the phone field earns its place, and where the express button sits so it helps without pulling people away from your upsells on the Shopify checkout.

04Shop Pay Installments explained

Which Shop Pay Installments plan would your buyer see at this price?

Drag the order total. The plan types and amount ranges below are the ones Shopify lists for US stores. The monthly payment uses an APR you pick, because the real rate comes from Affirm’s eligibility check on each buyer and can be anywhere from 0 to 36%.

Minus the Installments rate shown in your admin, on your usual Shopify Payments payout schedule. If the buyer stops paying, that’s Affirm’s problem.

Working it out…

05Shop Pay + Zoho

How do Shop Pay orders land in Zoho Books and Zoho CRM?

To Zoho, a Shop Pay sale is a Shopify order paid through Shopify Payments. The interesting part is the money: an Installments order is paid to you in full, a refund comes out of a later payout, and the fee is higher than on a card sale. These are the three connections we set up most.

01

Order paid with Shop Pay Invoice and payment in Zoho Books

The sale posts against the customer with tax split out, and the payment sits in a Shopify clearing account until the payout lands. Stock comes down in Zoho Inventory at the same moment.

02

Payout: sales, fees, refunds One bank deposit, matched

We split each payout into gross sales, Shopify Payments and Installments fees, and refunds, so the deposit in Zoho Books matches the bank feed to the cent instead of leaving a mystery difference.

03

Customer and order history Contact and deal in Zoho CRM

Repeat buyers get a contact with lifetime spend and the payment method on each order, which helps when you want to see how many big-ticket sales went through Installments.

Simple hand-offs can run on Zoho Flow. Stores with many SKUs, refunds and locations usually need the fuller build on our Shopify and Zoho integration page.

06Shop Pay pricing

What does Shop Pay cost a US merchant?

Shop Pay itself has no separate fee. It’s part of Shopify Payments, so each Shop Pay sale is charged at the card rate of your Shopify plan. Turning on Installments is free too, but every Installments order carries a higher rate than a normal card sale, because Shopify bundles its standard processing fee into it. Shopify shows that exact rate inside your admin rather than on its public pricing page.

On another platform? Shopify doesn’t publish a base price for Shop Pay on any platform. It does say extra transaction fees apply to Installments there, and you’ll need Shopify Payments set up and payout details finished within 21 days of the first Shop Pay payment, or those payments are refunded.

Our part. Shop Pay and Installments work with us is quoted as one fixed price inside a signed BRD that names every button placement, test order and Zoho Books mapping. Shopify bills its fees to you directly and we add nothing on top. The first call is free.

US terms in USD for stores with a US business selling in US dollars. Shopify and Affirm revise Installments ranges and APRs from time to time, so we read your admin’s live rate card together before you switch anything on.

07Shop Pay questions

Shop Pay questions from US store owners

Fees, Installments risk, POS, other platforms and the accounting side. Got a store URL and a recent payout report? Bring both to the call and we’ll read them with you.

What is Shop Pay and how does it work?

Shop Pay is Shopify’s accelerated checkout. A buyer saves their email, shipping address and card once. On any store that offers Shop Pay, they tap the button, confirm with a one-time code and pay without typing those details again. The data is stored on Shopify’s PCI-compliant servers and shared with the store only when an order is placed.

Does Shop Pay cost merchants extra?

No separate fee. Shop Pay is part of Shopify Payments, so a Shop Pay sale is charged at the same card rate as any other Shopify Payments sale on your plan. Shop Pay Installments is free to turn on, but each Installments order has a higher rate that includes the standard processing fee; the exact rate is shown in your Shopify admin.

How do Shop Pay Installments work for US shoppers?

In the US, orders from $35 to $50 can be split into two biweekly payments and orders from $50 to $999.99 into four, both interest-free. Orders from $150 to $30,000 can use monthly plans of 3, 6, 12, 18 or 24 months at 0 to 36% APR. Affirm checks each buyer’s eligibility and decides the terms they are offered.

Who takes the risk if a customer stops paying their installments?

Affirm does. Your store is paid the full order amount, minus the Installments fee, on your normal Shopify Payments payout schedule, and Affirm collects the payments from the customer. If a customer disputes an Installments order, you get a notice in the admin and respond the same way you would to a Shopify Payments dispute.

Can we use Shop Pay without Shopify Payments?

Shop Pay is included as part of Shopify Payments, so a store that uses a third-party card gateway needs Shopify Payments activated first. Installments additionally requires a US business entity selling in US dollars. If your products or country rule out Shopify Payments, we look at other wallets with you instead.

Should we offer Shop Pay alongside PayPal and Apple Pay?

Usually yes. Each wallet serves a different habit, and express buttons take little space when they are placed well. What we avoid is a row of five buttons stacked above Add to cart on a phone screen. We decide the order and placement from your own checkout data rather than a rule of thumb.

Can customers use Shop Pay Installments in our retail store?

Yes, at US retail locations using Shopify POS. The POS app must be version 8.4.0 or later, and staff need permission to create and edit draft orders. We set that up and walk your team through a sample sale before the first real one.

Can a store that is not on Shopify accept Shop Pay?

Yes, through Shop Pay on any platform. Your business must qualify for Shopify Payments, your checkout must collect an email before payment, and a developer has to integrate the Shop Pay Wallet API. Payout details must be completed within 21 days of the first Shop Pay payment.

How do Shop Pay payouts show up in Zoho Books?

As one bank deposit that covers many orders, fees and refunds. We post each order as an invoice and payment in a clearing account, then split every payout into sales, fees and refunds so the deposit matches the bank feed. Installments orders are recorded as paid in full, since that is how Shopify pays you.

How do you price a Shop Pay setup?

Talking it through the first time costs nothing. The setup itself is a fixed price agreed in a signed BRD that lists the button placements, Installments messaging, test orders and Zoho Books rules. A Wallet API integration on another platform may start with a paid discovery, quoted before it begins.

08How a Shop Pay project starts

From your payment settings to a signed plan

We start by reading what’s already switched on in Shopify Payments, because many stores have Shop Pay half set up. A store that only needs Installments and clean payouts is usually scoped on the first call; a Wallet API build on another platform gets its own short, paid discovery, priced before we begin.

Payment work runs over screen share for stores anywhere in the US, with test orders at your register if your shop is near Los Angeles.
