Extra fields, smarter delivery choices and offers placed exactly where a buyer can use them.
Checkout is the one part of a Shopify store you can’t redesign freely. Changes happen through checkout UI extensions, which add blocks at fixed spots, and Shopify Functions, which change discounts, delivery options and payment methods on Shopify’s servers. Our Glendale-led team plans those changes, builds them, tests them with real test orders and passes every new field on to Zoho.
01Should you customize checkout?
Shopify’s stock checkout already converts well, so every change has to earn its spot. We add things when a buyer or your warehouse genuinely needs them, and talk you out of the rest.
02Checkout services
Most checkout requests fall into five kinds of work. Smaller stores tend to need the Functions and thank-you page pieces; Plus brands use all five.

Information, shipping and payment steps: Plus
Discount logic, delivery customizations, payment customizations and cart validation written as Functions that run inside Shopify during checkout.
Custom-app Functions: Plus. Public apps: any plan
We read each retired line item, shipping or payment Script, write down what it really did, and rebuild only the rules you still want.
Old Script logic mapped rule by rule
Post-purchase surveys, reorder links, account prompts and delivery details on the two pages every buyer sees after paying.
Eligible apps on Basic plan and higher
Test orders across US states, discount combinations, wallets and edge cases like an empty field or a PO box, then a release plan with a rollback.
Checked before buyers ever see it
03Cart to paid
Follow one sample cart from a Boise kitchen shop as it moves to paid. At each stop we show what Shopify lets you change there, and what we typically put in.
Cart
A buyer in Idaho adds a cutting board and enters SPRING10. A discount Function decides whether that code stacks with the free-shipping offer, so the rule lives in one place instead of three apps.

Contact and address
On Plus, a UI extension adds an optional gift message under the address. It saves to the order, prints on the packing slip and later shows on the Zoho Books invoice.

Delivery
The board is too long for the small-parcel express service, so a delivery customization hides that option and renames ground to show the expected day.
Delivery customization Function
Payment, then paid
A payment customization keeps cash on delivery away from large orders. After paying, the thank-you page asks how the buyer heard of the shop, and the answer goes to Zoho CRM.

Switch extensions on and off. The preview places each one at the step where Shopify allows it, and the panel tells you what it’s built with and which plan it needs. Sample store, sample prices.
What you’d be building
2 extensions picked.
Plan rules shown here follow Shopify’s current checkout documentation: blocks on the information, shipping and payment steps need Plus, thank-you and order status page apps work on Basic and up, and Functions from public App Store apps run on any plan. A custom app with Functions needs Plus.
05Checkout + Zoho
A field nobody reads after the sale is wasted. We decide where each checkout answer belongs before we build it, then map it through the sync so it appears on the right Zoho record.
PO numberZoho Books
Wholesale buyers type their PO at checkout. It travels as an order attribute and fills the reference number on the Zoho Books invoice their accounts payable team will match.
Delivery dateZoho Inventory
The day a buyer picked becomes a field on the sales order in Zoho Inventory, so packers sort by promise date rather than order number.
Survey answerZoho CRM
“How did you hear about us?” lands on the contact in Zoho CRM, next to lifetime spend, ready for a report that compares channels.
Just a handful of fields and low order volume? Zoho Flow can carry them. For the full order, customer and refund sync between the two platforms, see Shopify and Zoho integration.
06What checkout changes cost
Shopify doesn’t sell checkout extensions separately. What you can change depends on the plan you already pay for, plus whatever an App Store app charges. Shopify lists checkout customization as limited on Basic, Grow and Advanced and full on Plus.
Basic · Grow · Advanced
Paid yearly. Monthly billing: $39, $105 or $399.
Shopify Plus
With a three-year commitment; $2,500 on a one-year term.
Shopify’s US list prices in USD before tax. App Store apps that add checkout blocks set their own monthly fees, which we compare against a custom build when both are possible.
Our checkout work is quoted as one fixed figure per project. Every extension, Function and Zoho mapping is listed in the BRD you sign, so nothing gets added to the bill halfway through a build.
07Checkout questions
Plan limits, retired Scripts, upsells and what reaches Zoho. Send us a link to your checkout before the first call and we’ll come ready with notes.
Partly. On Basic, Grow and Advanced you can brand the checkout in the checkout editor, add eligible apps to the thank you and order status pages, and use Shopify Functions that come inside public App Store apps. Custom blocks on the information, shipping and payment steps, and custom apps with your own Functions, need Shopify Plus.
Checkout UI extensions are small apps that render blocks at fixed spots in Shopify checkout, such as under the contact fields or next to the order summary. They are built with Shopify’s own components, so they follow your checkout branding and keep working when Shopify updates checkout. They cannot move Shopify’s built-in fields.
Functions are small pieces of code that run on Shopify’s servers while a buyer checks out. They power custom discounts, delivery customizations that hide, rename or reorder shipping options, payment customizations that hide or reorder payment methods, and cart and checkout validation that blocks an order which breaks a rule.
Shopify deprecated Scripts on June 30, 2026, and any Scripts still published were deactivated. The replacement is Shopify Functions. We list what each old line item, shipping and payment Script did, drop rules nobody needs, and rebuild the rest as Functions in an app, tested with orders before release.
No. Shopify retired checkout.liquid and additional scripts in favor of checkout extensibility, which relies on UI extensions, Functions, web pixels and the checkout editor. If your old customizations disappeared after the upgrade, we can rebuild the ones that still matter in the supported way.
On Shopify Plus, yes, with a checkout UI extension on the contact, delivery or payment step. The value saves to the order, where staff, packing slips and integrations can read it. On other plans, a common option is a field on the cart page or a question on the thank-you page.
One relevant, low-priced add-on often does; a stack of offers usually distracts. We prefer a single offer tied to what is already in the cart, placed in the order summary, and we watch the conversion rate after launch so it can be removed if it hurts.
Values captured by an extension are stored on the Shopify order as attributes or metafields. Our sync then maps each one to a Zoho field, for example a PO number to the Zoho Books invoice reference, a delivery date to the Zoho Inventory sales order, or a survey answer to the Zoho CRM contact.
Extensions built on Shopify’s checkout components load inside Shopify’s own checkout, and Shop Pay and other wallets keep working alongside them. Speed problems usually come from too many apps, so we keep the block count low and test every wallet before release.
The first call costs nothing. Each checkout project, whether a single field or a full Scripts rebuild, is a fixed price written into a signed BRD with a delivery schedule. A large Plus store may need a paid review first, quoted up front. Shopify and any apps bill you directly.
08How a checkout project starts
Four steps turn a list of checkout wishes into a signed plan. One or two extensions are often scoped on the first call; a Plus store with years of Scripts to rebuild may need a paid review first, priced before it begins.
Checkout builds happen in a development store and on screen share, for merchants anywhere in the US, Canada and Latin America. Teams around Los Angeles can watch the test orders with us in person.
After sign-off, delivery follows our standard build track. See how we work →
