Amazon RDS · AWS Partner · Los Angeles
Your MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQL Server data, with a spare copy standing by in another data center.
Amazon RDS is the AWS service that runs a relational database for you. AWS handles the hardware, patching, backups and failover; you keep the tables, the queries and the decisions. We pick the right engine and size, set up Multi-AZ and read replicas, move your data over with a short cutover, and wire it into Zoho so sales and finance see the same numbers your app does.
01Is RDS right for you?
RDS shines when your app already speaks SQL and nobody on the team wants to be the database babysitter. It supports Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle and Db2. It’s a poor match when you need root access to the server, or when your data is really a giant key-value lookup.
02Amazon RDS consulting services
Five jobs cover almost every RDS request we get. Each card shows the setting we care most about in that phase, because one wrong checkbox at creation time can cost a weekend later.

03A night in the life of an RDS database
Follow one sample night from last orders to sunrise. Backups run on their own, transaction logs pile up quietly, and when a script wrecks a table at 3 AM, point-in-time restore pulls the data back to the second before it happened.
Every write hits the primary and is copied synchronously to the standby in a second Availability Zone before the app gets an OK.
RDS takes the daily automated snapshot in the 30-minute window you set. On Multi-AZ MySQL and PostgreSQL it reads from the standby, so customers feel nothing.
Transaction logs upload about every five minutes. They’re the reason you can rewind to a second, and the snapshot alone couldn’t do that.
Sample: a cleanup script runs an UPDATE with no WHERE clause and rewrites the status on 18,400 order rows. Replicas copy the damage too.
Point-in-time restore builds a brand-new instance from the last snapshot plus the logs, stopping one second before the bad statement.
We compare the restored rows with live data and repair only the damaged ones. The new instance gets deleted once everyone agrees.
Orders look right. The only trace is an incident note and a new rule: cleanup scripts run against a copy first.
Sample night. Automated backups can be kept from 1 to 35 days; manual snapshots stay until you delete them. A restore always creates a new instance, so planning the endpoint switch is part of every runbook we write.

05Amazon RDS + Zoho
Your product data sits in RDS; your customers and invoices sit in Zoho. These are the patterns we reach for most, and none of them puts the database on the open internet.
Pattern A · reporting
Zoho Analytics imports from RDS on a schedule using a read-only user, through an IP allowlist or its Databridge agent inside your network.
Pattern B · onboarding
A Zoho CRM workflow fires a webhook, and a Lambda function writes the customer through RDS Proxy, which pools connections so bursts don’t exhaust the database.
Pattern C · billing
Your app writes each order to an outbox table in the same transaction. A scheduled job posts new rows to Zoho Books and marks them sent, so a retry never double-bills.
Pattern D · light apps
Field staff look up stock or order status from a Zoho Creator form. A narrow API sits in front of RDS; Zoho Catalyst or Zoho Flow can host the glue when it’s simple.
06Amazon RDS pricing
You pay per instance hour, per GB of storage, for backup space beyond your free allowance, and for data leaving AWS. Multi-AZ roughly doubles the instance and storage lines because AWS runs a second copy. Aurora meters storage and I/O differently. The rates below are AWS on-demand list prices for US East (N. Virginia).
| RDS for MySQL or PostgreSQL | Single-AZ | Multi-AZ (one standby) |
|---|---|---|
| db.t4g.micro 2 vCPU, 1 GiB, burstable | $0.016per hour | $0.032per hour |
| db.t4g.medium 2 vCPU, 4 GiB, burstable | $0.065per hour | $0.129per hour |
| db.m7g.large 2 vCPU, 8 GiB, general purpose | $0.168per hour | $0.337per hour |
| gp3 storage | $0.115per GB-month | $0.23per GB-month |
| Backup storage | $0.095per GB-month, only for backups beyond 100% of your database storage in the Region | |
| Aurora Standard | $0.10per GB-month storage, plus $0.20 per million I/O requests; Serverless v2 at $0.12 per ACU-hour | |
AWS list prices in USD for US East (N. Virginia), on-demand, Graviton (t4g, m7g) classes; SQL Server, Oracle and other Regions are priced differently, and AWS changes rates from time to time, so we price your exact setup from the AWS calculator before you commit. Our design or migration work is a single fixed price, written into a BRD you sign before we touch the database. The first call costs nothing.
07Amazon RDS questions
Engines, backups, failover, cost and Zoho. If your question is about a specific database, bring its size and version to the first call and we’ll answer with your numbers.
Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) runs a SQL database for you on AWS. It supports Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle and Db2. AWS manages the hardware, patching, automated backups and failover, while you manage the schema, queries and access. Most of our clients use it behind web apps, customer portals and internal tools.
Aurora is part of RDS but uses its own storage layer that keeps six copies of your data across three Availability Zones and grows on its own. It suits busy or spiky apps, many read replicas, or a database that must span Regions with Aurora Global Database. Standard RDS for MySQL or PostgreSQL is often cheaper for small, steady databases. We compare both on your real load before deciding.
On EC2 you get full control of the server, and you also own every patch, backup and failover script. RDS takes those chores off your plate in exchange for less low-level access. We suggest EC2 only when you need an extension, plugin or OS agent that RDS doesn’t allow; otherwise RDS is less work to keep healthy.
RDS is relational: tables, joins, transactions and SQL. DynamoDB is a key-value and document database that scales to very high traffic when you know your access patterns up front. Apps with reports, joins and changing questions usually belong on RDS; carts, sessions and event streams at large scale often fit DynamoDB better.
Automated backups can be kept from 1 to 35 days, and within that period you can restore to any second up to roughly the last five minutes. Manual snapshots stay until you delete them. Backup storage up to the size of your total database storage in a Region costs nothing extra; beyond that RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL charge $0.095 per GB-month in US East.
Multi-AZ keeps a synchronous standby in another Availability Zone, and RDS fails over to it automatically while your endpoint name stays the same. With the classic one-standby setup you can’t send queries to the standby. A read replica is an asynchronous copy you can query for reports; RDS for MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL allow up to 15. Many production setups use both.
We copy the full database while the old server keeps running, then keep it in sync with change data capture through AWS DMS or the engine’s own replication. When the copy is caught up and tested, we stop writes, let the last changes land, and point the app at RDS in a short agreed window, with the old server kept ready in case we need to roll back.
It depends on the engine, instance class, storage and whether you use Multi-AZ. In US East, RDS for PostgreSQL on db.t4g.medium is $0.065 per hour Single-AZ or $0.129 per hour Multi-AZ, and gp3 storage is $0.115 or $0.23 per GB-month. A small Multi-AZ database with 100 GB comes to about $117 a month before data transfer. Reserved Instances lower the hourly rate for steady use.
Yes. Zoho Analytics can import tables from RDS on a schedule using a read-only user. For live business events we usually put Lambda and an API in between, for example a Zoho CRM webhook creating an account row, or new orders in RDS becoming Zoho Books invoices. We avoid opening the database itself to the internet.
Yes, for up to seven days at a time; after that AWS starts it again automatically so it can apply required maintenance. You stop paying instance hours while it is stopped, but storage and backups are still billed. It works well for test and staging databases, and we often schedule it.
08How an RDS project starts
We look at the database before we plan around it. A single MySQL move can often be scoped on the first call; a fleet of databases with replication and strict downtime limits may need a paid assessment first, quoted up front.
Database work runs online for teams anywhere in the US, Canada and Latin America, and the cutover night is always a shared call with your people on it.
