01The job, layer by layer

What does an ERP consultant do for a mid-size business?

An ERP consultant designs how sales, stock, money and reporting share one set of records, then builds it, moves your data in and keeps it working. On a Zoho stack that means five layers, each with its own deliverables.

  1. Sell · Zoho CRM

Quotes that carry real item codes

Price books, quote templates and a won stage that hands the order straight to fulfilment, typed once.

  2. Stock · Zoho Inventory

    Items, warehouses and reorder points

A clean item master, serial or batch tracking where you need it, reorder levels per location and purchase orders raised from them.

  3. Money · Zoho Books

A ledger that agrees with the warehouse

Chart of accounts, inventory valuation accounts, sales tax set to your CPA’s rules, bank feeds and a close routine with the period locked.

  4. See · Zoho Analytics

Margin, aging and stock turns on one board

Reports that blend CRM, Inventory and Books data, so three people stop giving the owner three totals.

  5. Glue · Flow, Deluge, APIs

The links between the apps and beyond

Native syncs first, Deluge functions or Zoho Flow where a rule is missing, and connections to your store, shipping carrier or bank.

02Timing, honestly

When do you need an ERP consultant?

When the gaps between your sales, stock and accounting tools cost more each month than someone to close them would.

You can probably wait when

  • One person quotes, ships and invoices, and the spreadsheet still fits on a screen.
  • You sell services only, with no stock to count and no purchase orders to receive.
  • Your accounting app already links to your store and the totals agree every month.

Bring in an ERP consultant when

  • The warehouse count and the balance sheet disagree, and the gap changes every month.
  • Won deals get keyed again as sales orders, then a third time as invoices.
  • You opened a second warehouse, a marketplace channel or a 3PL, and stock went blind.
  • QuickBooks, a legacy system or NetSuite renewal is forcing a decision this year.
  • The month-end close takes a week because three tools have to be reconciled by hand.

03What gets deployed

Which Zoho apps make up a mid-market ERP stack?

Usually four core apps share one customer and item list: Zoho CRM, Zoho Inventory, Zoho Books and Zoho Analytics. Others join when the business needs them, and Zoho Finance Plus or Zoho One can bundle the licenses.

There is no single Zoho app called ERP. The consultant decides which app is the source of truth for each record, and what happens when two of them disagree.

Licenses are billed by Zoho, separately from our plan. Editions and US prices for each app sit on its own page, for example Zoho Inventory and Zoho Finance Plus.

    05Day 1 to day 30 · sample month

What does a month of ERP operations look like with a consultant on the team?

Seven moments repeat every month, from the first orders to a locked period and a margin board. Your consultant owns the system side of each. Scroll and the dial moves through the month.

    1. Day 1Zoho CRM

Won deals turn into sales orders

Quotes accepted in Zoho CRM become Zoho Inventory sales orders with the same items, prices and customer. Your consultant checks the sync log for anything that failed overnight.

    2. Day 3Zoho Inventory

      Reorder points raise purchase orders

Items that fall below their reorder level show up for buying. Purchase orders go to vendors from Zoho Inventory, so the ledger already knows what is on the way.

    3. Day 6Zoho Inventory

Receipts checked against what was ordered

The warehouse records what actually arrived. The vendor bill is raised from that purchase order, and short or damaged lines get flagged before anyone pays for them.

    4. Day 10Zoho Books

Invoices chase themselves, payments get matched

Shipped orders are invoiced, reminders go to late payers on a schedule, and bank feed rules match incoming payments to the right invoice.

    5. Day 15Zoho Inventory

A cycle count on the items that drift

A short list of fast movers gets counted instead of one painful annual count. Adjustments post with a reason, and the consultant traces each gap.

    6. Day 22Zoho Books

      Clearing the way for month-end

Unbilled shipments, open receipts and uncategorized bank lines are cleared. Sales tax is reviewed against your CPA’s settings while there is still time to fix a rate.

    7. Day 30Zoho Analytics

      Period locked, margin board refreshed

Accounts are reconciled and the period locked in Zoho Books. Zoho Analytics shows margin by product, customer and channel, and the consultant brings next month’s fix list.

Days are a sample rhythm; yours follow your billing terms and close calendar. New rollouts run on our project track first.

    06Where the price starts

What does an ERP consultant cost per month?

Our plans begin at $300* a month when the work covers a single Zoho product. An ERP stack usually spans two or more apps, so most ERP work becomes a quoted plan written for your scope.

The rollout itself, from design and data moves to testing and go-live, priced once in writing before anyone starts.

    • B

      Monthly retainer

After go-live, the consultant keeps the syncs, rules and reports healthy and handles change requests every month.

    • C

      Dedicated team

Several entities, heavy integration or a long rebuild. The roles you need are agreed when you sign.

    • D

      On-demand hours

An expert on call for a busy season, an audit of one workflow or a new warehouse opening.

Many ERP clients pair a fixed-price rollout with a retainer for the months after. Scaling and cancelling are set out in each contract.

    07Six jobs, scored

Should you hire an in-house ERP manager or a certified consultant team?

A staff hire knows your floor better; a consultant team covers more skills for less fixed cost. Most mid-size companies end up with one internal owner plus outside specialists. Here is how six common jobs fall.

    1. Walking the warehouse every day

ETG consultantWorks online and joins your team on video; on-site visits near Los Angeles when they help.

In-house hireSees the receiving dock and the packing bench, and hears problems before they turn into tickets.

    2. Covering CRM, stock, ledger and reporting at once

ETG consultantConsultants, developers and report builders sit on the same team behind your named contact.

In-house hireRare to find one person strong in all four, so gaps go to outside help anyway.

    3. Moving data off the old system

ETG consultantRuns on our migration track with a stopper date and sample sign-off before cutover.

In-house hireOften a first migration for them, learned while the business waits.

    4. Cover during vacations and turnover

ETG consultantThe plan belongs to your company, so work carries on when a person changes on either side.

In-house hireWhen they leave, the setup knowledge can leave with them.

    5. Paying for lumpy, seasonal ERP work

ETG consultantA retainer or on-demand hours can shrink after go-live and grow for a new warehouse.

In-house hireA full salary in quiet months and still stretched in busy ones.

    6. Owning priorities

ETG consultantWorks a backlog you rank; we still need one person on your side to decide.

In-house hireCan be that decider, which is why we suggest naming one either way.

    08The bench behind your consultant

    09Before you hire

Questions about hiring an ERP consultant

Scope, cost, timing and where Zoho fits against the big ERP suites.

What does an ERP consultant do?

An ERP consultant decides how sales, stock, accounting and reporting share one set of records, then configures the apps, moves your data in, tests the links between them and supports the team after go-live. On a Zoho stack that usually means Zoho CRM, Zoho Inventory, Zoho Books and Zoho Analytics working from the same customers and items.

How much does it cost to hire an ERP consultant?

Plans begin at $300 a month while the work stays on a single Zoho product. Most ERP work spans two or more apps, so it becomes a quoted plan, and a full rollout is a per-project engagement at a fixed price agreed in writing first. Zoho bills its licenses separately.

Is Zoho a real ERP for a mid-size company?

Zoho has no single app called ERP, but Zoho CRM, Inventory, Books and Analytics are built to sync. Together they cover quoting, purchasing, warehouses, invoicing, the ledger and reporting for many distributors and product companies. Heavy production planning may need a Zoho Creator app or a dedicated system.

Can you move us from NetSuite or QuickBooks to a Zoho ERP stack?

Yes. Moves run on our 15-step migration track with a stopper date, sample sign-off and a validation report, and the old system goes read-only once you confirm. See the NetSuite to Zoho and QuickBooks to Zoho Books routes for detail.

How fast can an ERP consultant start?

Expect your ERP consultant at work 2 to 3 working days after the contract is signed. The first days go to access, mapping how orders and stock move between your tools, and fixing whatever blocks this month’s close.

Do we need Zoho One or Zoho Finance Plus for an ERP setup?

Not always. Some companies license Zoho CRM, Inventory and Books one by one; others save by moving to a bundle. We compare the official US prices for your user counts during scoping and recommend the cheaper route.

What hours does an ERP consultant work?

ERP support runs across US Pacific and CET working hours. The exact hours on your plan, the roles involved and our response times are written into the proposal we email you before you sign.

    10Four steps

How do you start with an ERP consultant?

Four moves: talk, read the proposal, sign, and see your ERP consultant begin 2 to 3 working days later.

ERP work runs online for distributors across the US, Canada and Latin America; warehouses near Los Angeles can book an on-site walkthrough.
